Who Is Jesus Christ?

The common belief among the myriad of churches that are members of the universal body of Christ:

“We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.”

Nicene Creed 451 AD (snippet)

Indeed, Jesus Christ came down from heaven.  He was the incarnation of the eternally begotten Son of God.  The pre-incarnate Jesus Christ wasn’t created like an angel but rather begotten of the Father.  He is co-eternal, co-equal, and consubstantial with God the Father.  Notably, consubstantial means that Christ is one in being with the Father or has the same essential nature as God the Father.

Undoubtedly, the deity of Jesus Christ, His Crucifixion for our sins, and His Resurrection & Ascension into heaven are the most central tenets of our faith.

  1. The Nicene Creed and the Apostles' Creed are statements of faith which have served as convenient summaries of the essential doctrines of our Christian faith.
