Destinations in Deuteronomy

For I shall die in this land, I shall not cross the Jordan, but you shall cross and take possession of this good land.  So watch yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of anything against which the Lord your God has commanded you.  For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

When you become the father of children and children’s children and have remained long in the land, and act corruptly, and make an idol in the form of anything, and do that which is evil in the sight of the Lord your God so as to provoke Him to anger, I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you shall surely perish quickly from the land which you are going over the Jordan to possess.  You shall not live long on it, but shall be utterly destroyed.

He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.  And they said, “His blood be on us and on our children.”

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!  How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.  Behold your house is being left to you desolate.  For I say to you, from now on you shall not see Me until you say, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”

And the Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where the Lord shall drive you.  And there you will serve gods, the work of man’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.  When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and listen to His voice.  For the Lord your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them.

After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind should blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree.

And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the bondservants of our God on their foreheads.”

And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel.  And they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

  4. The Jewish calendar is reckoned from 3761 BC, the traditional date of the Creation of Adam & Eve. 5,708-3,761=1,947. There was no year 0. When 1 BC ended, 1 AD began. Hence, 1,947 years later, we arrive at 1948 AD. Iyar is the eighth month of the Jewish year. Because the Jewish year begins in late September or early October, Iyar can be likened to our Gregorian month of May. On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was reborn.
